Poem a Day in May Prompt 27: Nature

summer flowersWelcome to Day 27 of my personal month-late NaPoWriMo challenge. You can check out my previous post here, or click here for Day 1.

It’s the weekend at last, and after sitting in an office all week, especially now that the sun finally came out after weeks of rain where I live, I’m itching to spend some time outside. Which brings me to today’s poetry topic.

Prompt 27: Nature Poetry

Write a poem featuring nature, but don’t just describe pretty things. This isn’t an ode to spring. What thoughts do you have when you’re finally outside after weeks of cabin fever? What do you think about when you get to go to the beach and lie down on a blanket, or when you finally find time to take a hike on that trail you just learned about? Write a poem that captures not just nature, but your interaction with it.

A great example of a poem that does this is Wordsworth’s poem “Lines Written in Early Spring.” It’s one of my favorites of his so it’s definitely worth checking out if you’re not already familiar with it.

If you try this, or any of the prompts I’m sharing throughout this month, let me know! If you try a prompt on your blog, share the link! I’ll check it out.

I also love to read any thoughts or writing tips you may have. Feel free to share them in the comments!
